Apply to STEPP
Application Update
Starting in spring 2025, East Carolina University (ECU) will require standardized test scores for admission. To meet ECU’s admissions standards, all applicants must meet the requirements set forth by Undergraduate Admissions, including submitting ACT or SAT scores for the 2025 Cohort Application. Therefore, students who wish to apply for the program must include their ACT or SAT scores with their STEPP application materials.
STEPP is offering multiple virtual Q&A sessions in April where prospective students, families, educators, and counselors can ask questions about SAT/ACT requirements.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY TO STEPP?
Prepare to Apply
Finding the right program requires time and dedication. The STEPP Program offers helpful tips to help you prepare to apply to the program by your junior year of high school. Make the most of your junior year in high school by doing the following.
→ Graduate by Spring 2025 – Students apply early to participate in transition support during their senior year of high school.
→ Current Psychoeducation Evaluation – Evaluations must be current, within the past three years, and comprehensive as per specific criteria on the ECU Disability Support Services website.
→ Challenge Yourself – Ensure you meet the minimum course requirements at ECU. We recommend checking out ECU Admission’s Required High School Courses. Start thinking about teacher recommendations that would best identify strengths and growth areas.
→ Review and Analyze the Essay Prompts – As part of the STEPP program, students must submit both drafts and final versions of their essays.
