Naming Opportunities
STEPP promotes access to a rich community of students, mentors, peers, and faculty. From their first day on-campus during Boot Camp to the day they become a Pirate Alumnus, our students utilize the physical space that makes up STEPP as an extension of their academic supports. Interested supporters have the opportunity to name some of the spaces associated with STEPP that offer this essential community experience for our students.
The Cove
East Carolina University provides a robust array of opportunities, activities, and experiences for students, as well as a commitment to our mission, “to serve.” Students in STEPP are able to benefit from all of these opportunities, as well as the smaller STEPP community within this large university. The Cove is a familiar place, a home-base where students go to study, relax, and reset. A mainstay for our students, The Cove is an ideal naming opportunity bringing long-term sustainability to one of the most iconic aspects of the STEPP Program.
STEPP Classroom
Students in their first year with STEPP spend a lot of time together. A shared experience for all enrolled students in the STEPP Program is their time in the STEPP Classroom, a dedicated space where students are introduced to learning strategies, explore their academic and professional interests, and participate in group learning sessions. Here, and together, they learn to navigate the university setting and what it means to be Pirates. Also, home to our STEPPing Into Success Alumni Series and Career Readiness Programming, the STEPP Classroom offers an environment where group learning can be individualized to meet our student’s needs.
STEPP Study Rooms
STEPP students have access to four small group/individual study rooms in Joyner Library. These rooms provide a quiet and private learning environment for times when students need a space free of distractions. This naming opportunity recognizes the importance of providing a variety of spaces in which students can align study routines to their personal learning preferences and needs.
Dedicated Mentor Room
STEPP Program mentors provide front-line support for students on a daily basis and assist students as they take a proactive approach to managing their learning routines. A dedicated mentor room allows students to connect with these near-peer mentors during a scheduled meeting or when a need arises.
