Giving to the Walter & Marie Williams STEPP Program
“I know that the STEPP Program makes a difference. And for that reason alone, it’s a reason to give”.
Ann Clark
STEPP Program Endowment
A foundational and unique feature of the STEPP Program is the ability for students to access an extensive support system at no additional cost beyond general university tuition and fees. An endowment will be necessary to sustain the STEPP Program, and our current fundraising goal is $4 million. Building the endowment is our main funding priority and is essential to satisfy our long-term commitments to students we invite to participate in the program.
Endowed Student Support Positions
The most valuable and essential component of the STEPP Program consists of our people, and at the core of our strong support network is a small faculty team. Helping to endow the STEPP faculty positions will help to ensure that the innovative core of the program will remain in place long-term, furthering the mission of STEPP through research-informed approaches that directly support student success. Specifically, by fully endowing our Transitional Specialist and Instructional Specialist roles, we will be able to ensure that students in STEPP are able to connect with support for their postsecondary goals from their senior year of high school and throughout the university experience.

Naming Opportunities
STEPP promotes access to a rich community of students, mentors, peers, and faculty. From their first day on-campus during Boot Camp to the day they become a Pirate Alumnus, our students utilize the physical space that makes up STEPP as an extension of their academic supports. Interested supporters have the opportunity to name some of the spaces associated with STEPP that offer this essential community experience for our students.
Annual Giving Opportunities
Simply stated, annual giving makes the day-day operations of the STEPP Program possible. Our ability to offer mentoring, tutoring, instructional programming and other support at the core of the STEPP program depends on this support. Gifts of all amounts can make a positive impact for our scholars.

Join Walter and Marie Williams and the Advancement Council in securing STEPP’s legacy at ECU and ensuring that it remains a national model for student success.
A gift of $1,000+ receives recognition on our donor wall outside the STEPP Program Learning Cove in Joyner Library.
We offer our sincere thanks to those who help the STEPP Program celebrate and support our Pirate scholars with different learning strengths and needs.
